Shopify Email Dynamic vs Static Product Section Update

Shopify Email Dynamic vs Static Product Section Update

Shopify just released a small but surprisingly powerful update inside the Shopify Email app — the ability to make your product sections dynamic instead of static. This means that your emails can now automatically update with your newest or bestselling products each time they’re sent. If you’re serious about improving your email automation, this new setting could save you hours of manual work each month.

To access this update, head into your Shopify admin → Marketing → Shopify Email. When editing or creating a template, click the plus icon to add a new section, then choose Product. You’ll now see a toggle between Static and Dynamic.

When set to Static, the section remains fixed — you manually select the products that will always appear in that email. But when you choose Dynamic, Shopify automatically inserts products based on your store’s current best sellers or most recently published items at the time the email is sent.

This small change adds a lot of flexibility. You can use dynamic sections to keep your email campaigns constantly updated without having to rebuild them every week. For example, if you’re sending a recurring campaign or using automation flows inside Shopify, your dynamic sections will always show new or popular items.

It’s easy to see how powerful this can be for stores that frequently add products. Clothing shops, tech stores, or accessory brands with large catalogs can now set up an automation once — and every future email will pull in the most relevant products automatically.

Pairing this update with Shopify Flow opens up even more automation potential. For instance, in a “Welcome Series” automation, you can create a follow-up email 6 months later that automatically displays your latest products using a dynamic section. That means every new subscriber gets a unique, personalized email — without you ever needing to edit it again.

For newer store owners, this update highlights why it’s important to start simple and gradually build automation.
