Shopify 3D Product Scanner iOS 17 Update

Shopify 3D Scanner: Create 360° Product Images With iOS 17

Shopify just introduced an incredible new feature for iOS users — a built-in 3D product scanner that lets you create 360° product visuals right from your iPhone. For entrepreneurs and Shopify store owners, this means you can now showcase your products in higher detail, increase customer confidence, and boost conversions — all without needing third-party apps or freelancers.

The update comes with iOS 17 and is built directly into the Shopify mobile app. Simply open your Shopify app, tap Scanner, then choose 3D Scanner. You’ll see an interface that lets you move around your product in a full circle to capture every angle. Once the scan is complete, Shopify automatically uploads your 3D model to your product page or homepage, giving visitors a realistic view of your items.

This is a major step forward for eCommerce imagery. As any merchant knows, high-quality visuals directly impact trust and conversion rates. When customers can view a product from multiple angles, they’re less likely to have doubts — and that means fewer returns, fewer refund requests, and more satisfied buyers.

Shopify even shared a few best practices to get the best 3D capture: choose products larger than 8 cm in all dimensions, make sure your background color contrasts with the product, and avoid overly shiny surfaces. For best results, make multiple attempts under different lighting conditions. The app then processes the data and renders a clean, lightweight 3D model that loads smoothly within your store.

As someone who’s been running Shopify stores for years, I can immediately see how this can transform the product experience — especially for categories like jewelry, apparel, and home décor. Previously, you’d need a freelancer or third-party 3D app, which could slow down your site and often create compatibility issues. This new Shopify feature eliminates that hassle and keeps your store running efficiently.

What’s exciting is that this innovation builds on Shopify’s recent trend of focusing on AI and product imagery. In the Shopify Summer Editions 2023 updates, they even teased an AI-powered image generation tool in collaboration with Google — helping merchants create high-quality product visuals faster than ever. For beginners who want a guided setup process to launch their Shopify store correctly, I highly recommend the 30-Day Beginner’s Shopify Program. It’s designed for new merchants who want to get everything right from day one — from store design to conversion tracking.

This 3D scanner is another example of Shopify’s commitment to making the platform more accessible, visual, and conversion-driven. Whether you’re a dropshipper, product creator, or boutique owner, using features like this gives you a big edge over competitors who still rely on static 2D images.
